Malachy is a calm, independent and relaxed cat who enjoys being around adults. He will follow his foster parents around and relax next to their feet in the kitchen on a mat, or on a mat at the computer. He will usually come when he hears his name called. He is terrific when visitors come to the house. He will wait at the top of the stairs to be called down for an introduction. Malachy enjoys interactive playtime with his foster parent. His energetic side is revealed when the furry wand entices him to reach and grab. Small colorful balls that roll and jingle or rattle get him moving fast in chase. Malachy can often be found near a window watching for movement of birds and squirrels. At night he will make a comfortable spot on the bed until morning. He is big boy, though not big on being picked up. Malachy came to his current foster home as a cat who was intimidated living in a multi-cat foster home. He does much better as a solo cat, and we recommend this be the same situation in his future home. He currently is fostered with another quiet, passive cat and they live with each other peaceably but with no interest in becoming besties. Malachy does not travel well in a carrier. So, we suggest no long trips nor lots of travelling for this guy. He's a home-body.
About Me:
He also does not care for change and high activity, so a calm, quiet stable adult-only home with regular routines is best for him. Malachy is very particular about his litterboxes and likes them to be kept very clean. His foster parent will show you the type of box, litter and placement that will ensure his successful use. Malachy had some dental extractions to remove some broken teeth. He is on a calorie restricted diet and eats wet food and dry food. He is losing some of his girth and becoming more active and agile. He does not beg for food. His adopter must commit to helping him achieve and maintain a healthy weight. Malachy is an independent cat but really needs someone to bond with who is caring and attuned to his needs.
Notes:
The adoption fee includes a health check, first vaccination in a series and any that become due while in care, first anti-parasite treatments needed in care, spay or neuter and microchip at our Veterinary partner. There is a 10% discount when you adopt 2 cats/kittens. The adopter will be responsible for any vaccine or boosters, anti-parasite treatments that are needed after adoption. Kittens usually need 3 vaccines, one month apart starting at age 7 weeks. Juveniles and Adult cats usually require 2 vaccines one month apart in the first year, then annual vaccines. Deworming is recommended at the time of each vaccine appointment. If you are intending to adopt, please be aware that your Veterinary clinic may be experiencing backlogs in scheduling appointments, so do not delay calling your clinic to book your new cat's needed booster appointment(s). Please note that cats are not tested for FIV/FeLV nor can FIP be predicted. We will share any medical information gathered during our health checks and observations revealed during their time in care. But it is important to know that some illnesses can have an incubation period of 10 days, which means that a cat can leave in good health but get sick a few days post adoption. In addition, the stress of a new environment can affect a cats’ immune system.
