Cat Whisperer Needed
Bingley was brought into foster care this winter as an older kitten who had been born and was living outdoors in a large cat community, looked after by dedicated caregivers. He had no close interaction with humans until he was over 4 months old, which is why he's still nervous around us and is still learning the ways of being a pet. However, he loves being an indoor kitty. He runs back and forth in the room, chasing toys and imaginary critters, climbs up and down the cat tree as though demons were chasing him, and will jump on the wand toy that I tease him with. When I'm downstairs and he has the zoomies, I hear lots of banging and thumping noises from the floor above me. He has never missed the litterbox, but he does like to play in his water dish :-) He puts on a good act of being a tough guy, and will hiss at everyone, unless they are offering Churu/creamy treats. Then he will happily lick it off your fingers with no aggression at all. He does do a quick lunge out of the cubbyhole of the cat tree once in a while if you walk by too close, and claws are sometimes out, but it is all show. He has "bopped" my cat, after sniffing him, but with no claws. I think these behaviours are mostly bravado, as he's still very nervous and is learning to trust people, although he is improving a little each day. Bingley is a normal kitten who has his likes and dislikes already, so I give him different types of soft food to see what he'll eat. He loves Churu Tuna with Scallops, and really, any kind of creamy treat. Only the best for this spoiled boy! He seems to like any type of dry food but Performatrin Kitten was quite popular. *
About Me:
Bingley needs a special family who will take the time to show patience, work with him and earn his trust. Bingley is a work in progress, but the reward of saving a cat from the harshness and dangers of outdoor life is so worth the effort and time. He is SO cute and adorable, and so worth the time and effort it will take to make him comfortable. As in his foster home, he will need to be in an enclosed room for a while, where he's safe and feels safe (and you will always know where he is). I don't let him into the main house yet. I think he would be overwhelmed and hide most of the time. In his safe room he's comfortable coming out to play when I'm in the room but when I get up for something, he runs to his hiding spot in the cat tree. It may take a month or more for him to feel comfortable with his new family and in a new environment, but he's really worth it, and his foster mom with Ottawa Stray Cat Rescue can offer you tips and tricks that helped in their foster home.
Notes:
The adoption fee includes a health check, first vaccination in a series and any that become due while in care, first anti-parasite treatments needed in care, spay or neuter and microchip at our Veterinary partner. There is a 10% discount when you adopt 2 cats/kittens. The adopter will be responsible for any vaccine or boosters, anti-parasite treatments that are needed after adoption. Kittens usually need 3 vaccines, one month apart starting at age 7 weeks. Juveniles and Adult cats usually require 2 vaccines one month apart in the first year, then annual vaccines. Deworming is recommended at the time of each vaccine appointment. If you are intending to adopt, please be aware that your Veterinary clinic may be experiencing backlogs in scheduling appointments, so do not delay calling your clinic to book your new cat's needed booster appointment(s). Please note that cats are not tested for FIV/FeLV nor can FIP be predicted. We will share any medical information gathered during our health checks and observations revealed during their time in care. But it is important to know that some illnesses can have an incubation period of 10 days, which means that a cat can leave in good health but get sick a few days post adoption. In addition, the stress of a new environment can affect a cats’ immune system.
