Cat Whisperer Needed? Yes

Foster Notes: In June, Sharjah was found living outside in Aylmer. She was brought into foster care with her kittens Abu, Dhabi and Dubai (all now adopted). Sharjah was very weak, severely dehydrated and spent several days in hospital receiving IV fluids. For a while, we did not know if Sharjah would make it. Thanks to the amazing care provided by her medical team, Sharjah’s health gradually stabilized and continued to improve over the summer. We are so happy to see her doing so well! Sharjah is looking for a loving and patient adult family willing to take it slow and build a lasting connection with her. She is currently living with a male cat (who she adores) and a female dog (who she could care less about). Sharjah was ear tipped at her spay and she has a short tail. We do not know why her tail is this way. Sharjah was initially very scared of her foster parents and communicated her fear & boundaries with hiding, avoidance, meows, hisses and, at carrier time, a few swats. She may show these behaviours in a new home at first until she becomes comfortable. Over several weeks, her foster family gained her trust with a steady routine each day that included lots of treats. She is now comfortable spending time out in the open, is curious about the space around her, approaches for treats and playtime. She can be skittish and tends to circle a few times before approaching or settling. Right now, Sharjah is not a lap cat, she is not cuddly and does not always want to be petted. But hopefully as she gains comfort and confidence this will change. Sharjah has a super cute MEW and she shows her happiness with kneading paws in her cat bed. She likes to watch her humans and chooses when to interact with us.

Cat Whisperer Needed: This is a cat who was likely born and raised outside and had limited human interaction in her early months. She has shown over time that she can establish a connection with humans and be happy indoors. She is now loving inside life, with all the perks that come with a family—warmth, food, company, affection and love. However, it will take awhile to develop the same trust as with her foster parents, and she may hide until adjusted. She needs a special family who will take the time to show patience and build her confidence, just like her foster family did. It may take a month or more, but she is worth it! Sharjah's foster parents with Ottawa Stray Cat Rescue can offer you tips and tricks that helped in her foster home.

ADOPTION FEE: The Cat Whisperer Needed adoption fee is $165.00 (which includes a health check, first vaccination in a series and any that become due while in care, first anti-parasite treatments needed in care, spay or neuter and microchip at our Veterinary partner). There is a 10% discount when you adopt 2 cats/kittens. The adopter will be responsible for any vaccine or boosters, anti-parasite treatments that are needed after adoption. Kittens usually need 3 vaccines, one month apart starting at age 7 weeks. Juveniles and Adult cats usually require 2 vaccines one month apart in the first year, then annual vaccines. Deworming is recommended at the time of each vaccine appointment. If you are intending to adopt, please be aware that your Veterinary clinic may be experiencing backlogs in scheduling appointments, so do not delay calling your clinic to book your new cat's needed booster appointment(s). Please note that cats are not tested for FIV/FeLV nor can FIP be predicted. We will share any medical information gathered during our health checks and observations revealed during their time in care. But it is important to know that some illnesses can have an incubation period of 10 days, which means that a cat can leave in good health but get sick a few days post adoption. In addition, the stress of a new environment can affect a cats’ immune system.
