Tempura (we call her Shrimp) was living in an outdoor rural cat community . She was immediately friendly and affectionate with the volunteers there and did not need any coaxing to enter a trap (they had no carriers as they hadn't anticipated finding such an easy going cat). We do not know if she was abandoned or was born and lived outside her whole life up until now. Tempura has adjusted really well to indoor life. She's still skittish of certain unfamiliar or loud noises and fast movements. She is very in tune with bird or squirrel noises and will jump into action and race to the nearest window to see. She's darted up to windows very quickly when she heard a bird so makes me think she's hunted a few in her time outside. She likes to follow me around the house and is very curious. She loves to look out the windows and doors. She is extremely food oriented and will eat just about anything, human or cat variety. She can be cuddly but its on her terms. She purrs almost immediately when you start petting her and she loves pets. She will circle and rub up against your legs when she wants pets. She is easygoing and doesn't mind being picked up for short periods. Overall, she's a great cat. She has so much personality to still develop but her foundation is top notch. She's very fun, soft, and kind.

About Me:

Tempura is great, the only concerns are: We do not recommend bringing her outside in a harness; we think she would run away if she wiggles out of her harness (which is very easily done) if she's out on leash. We have no doubt she's had to hunt outside and her behaviour when just hearing a bird or squirrel makes us nervous that she'd go after one if she had the chance. Caution around open windows must also be taken - screens are no match for a motivated cat, so windows should remain closed when not supervised. She tends to gobble down her food quickly, so her new parents will need to portion at meal times rather than free feed, or be very mindful of how much food she is given over the course of a day, because she could end up overweight. Other than that, she's amazing!

Notes:

The adoption fee includes a health check, first vaccination in a series and any that become due while in care, first anti-parasite treatments needed in care, spay or neuter and microchip at our Veterinary partner. There is a 10% discount when you adopt 2 cats/kittens. The adopter will be responsible for any vaccine or boosters, anti-parasite treatments that are needed after adoption. Kittens usually need 3 vaccines, one month apart starting at age 7 weeks. Juveniles and Adult cats usually require 2 vaccines one month apart in the first year, then annual vaccines. Deworming is recommended at the time of each vaccine appointment. If you are intending to adopt, please be aware that your Veterinary clinic may be experiencing backlogs in scheduling appointments, so do not delay calling your clinic to book your new cat's needed booster appointment(s). Please note that cats are not tested for FIV/FeLV nor can FIP be predicted. We will share any medical information gathered during our health checks and observations revealed during their time in care. But it is important to know that some illnesses can have an incubation period of 10 days, which means that a cat can leave in good health but get sick a few days post adoption. In addition, the stress of a new environment can affect a cats’ immune system.
