Bonjour, mes amis! My name is Marquis and I have voyaged far in search of my furever home. I was abandoned in a carrier on the side of a highway in the middle of winter when a kind lady came upon me and rescued me. Being left on my own was pretty scary for a shy girl like me, but I’m oh-so grateful to all of the humans I’ve met since arriving in Ottawa for helping me feel safe and comfortable again. I’ve since learned to come out of my shell, and have been enjoying watching nature, keeping an eye on my foster family from my perch lookout, keeping their feet warm at night, and curling up under blankets with them. After a little bit of TLC, I’m now ready to continue on my quest to find my furever family. Could you be mine?
About Me:
Foster Notes: Marquis is a true family cat at heart - she adores being included in family time, and is happiest when treated like part of the group. Marquis takes her role as family member so seriously that she prefers to eat her meals with company and will even wait for you to join and pet her before she settles down to eat and chirp contentedly. She will work hard to include herself (or make sure you feel included!) in all that you do. She is a very chatty lady and meows or yodels often for no apparent reason, but also prefers a quieter home and can be a little jumpy with sudden noises. Her foster family have noticed that she’s quite content with being held or picked-up, and will often happily stay for cuddles if you bring her to sit down with you. She also enjoys receiving pets from her perch, and if you lean in to hug her, you’ll hear her little purrs the whole time. Despite what she’s been through, her gentleness and patience are her best qualities and she’s been nothing short of a sweetheart. She’s sure to make any home feel whole - she’s just happy to be included. Health Notes: Being abandoned, we don't have a medical history for Marquis. Although no spay scar nor tattoo was found, our Veterinary partner believes by other signs (including not going into heat since being in care since March) that she is already spayed. When found, her abdomen appeared to have been shaved, but the fur has been very slow to grow back in. She had 4 teeth removed and a dental cleaning while in care. She was at first reluctant to jump up, so an xray was done and results indicate left hip dysplasia. She now jumps up on furniture but we are mindful of how high it is for her to get down. She may in future benefit from a supplement like cosequin and maintaining a healthy weight will also be of benefit to her. She had one incidence of a urinary infection early on, which seems to have cleared up with a round of antibiotics and urinary support food. She now eats regular food with no issues. She prefers dry food (a small kibble) so making sure she drinks plenty of water will help her maintain urinary health.
Notes:
The adoption fee includes a health check, first vaccination in a series and any that become due while in care, first anti-parasite treatments needed in care, spay or neuter and microchip at our Veterinary partner. There is a 10% discount when you adopt 2 cats/kittens. The adopter will be responsible for any vaccine or boosters, anti-parasite treatments that are needed after adoption. Kittens usually need 3 vaccines, one month apart starting at age 7 weeks. Juveniles and Adult cats usually require 2 vaccines one month apart in the first year, then annual vaccines. Deworming is recommended at the time of each vaccine appointment. If you are intending to adopt, please be aware that your Veterinary clinic may be experiencing backlogs in scheduling appointments, so do not delay calling your clinic to book your new cat's needed booster appointment(s). Please note that cats are not tested for FIV/FeLV nor can FIP be predicted. We will share any medical information gathered during our health checks and observations revealed during their time in care. But it is important to know that some illnesses can have an incubation period of 10 days, which means that a cat can leave in good health but get sick a few days post adoption. In addition, the stress of a new environment can affect a cats’ immune system.
