Francine is a gentle, nervous cat looking for a quiet home. When Francine first came to our home, she spent almost all of her time hiding. Once she was allowed out of the initial foster room, she found an open drawer under a bed and moved in. As she has gotten more comfortable, we have learned that she loves ear scratches and belly rubs! She will curl up next to you on the bed or on your lap and make it very clear that it is time for pets. She is not big on playing, but she will bat around a toy on a string for a short time. As she gets more comfortable, she may start playing more. Because she thrives in a quiet environment, her best fit will likely be a small home with one or two adults and no other pets. Foster Notes: Francine doesn't seem to want to drink from a water bowl, so she needs to have a good portion of her food as wet food to make sure she gets enough water. Otherwise, she is a very good eater. She is not on any medication nor special food Francine has been adopted and returned twice, during both adoptions she was peeing outside the litterbox. She has not had any incidents since being at our house these last 2 months.
About Me:
We believe that the peeing outside the litterbox was stress-induced as her Urinalysis testing done at our Vet partner was negative for infection and crystals. Adjusting to her new home and other environmental factors were likely the cause. We believe it will not be a problem as long as she finds a quiet, stress-free environment and her litterbox is kept very clean. Francine is looking for someone who will be patient with her as she adjusts to her new home (it took 3 weeks before she wanted to be touched in her foster home). A quiet house is essential. She doesn't want to leave her safety zone (our bedroom) except to eat at night. But with us she's as affectionate as can be. She's still scared of the teens in the home though. Health Notes: A low-grade heart murmur was heard at a vet appointment, but only when her heart rate was elevated. It was believed to be stress induced. Francine was found alone as a stray, likely abandoned. She was already declawed on all 4 paws when found. Declawed cats can have some paw sensitivity and be at an increased risk for developing chronic pain and arthritis in the future due to this status. Francine had a cleaning and one tooth extracted while in foster care. She was already missing 3 other teeth. Francine tested negative for both FIV and FeLV.
Notes:
The adoption fee includes a health check, first vaccination in a series and any that become due while in care, first anti-parasite treatments needed in care, spay or neuter and microchip at our Veterinary partner. There is a 10% discount when you adopt 2 cats/kittens. The adopter will be responsible for any vaccine or boosters, anti-parasite treatments that are needed after adoption. Kittens usually need 3 vaccines, one month apart starting at age 7 weeks. Juveniles and Adult cats usually require 2 vaccines one month apart in the first year, then annual vaccines. Deworming is recommended at the time of each vaccine appointment. If you are intending to adopt, please be aware that your Veterinary clinic may be experiencing backlogs in scheduling appointments, so do not delay calling your clinic to book your new cat's needed booster appointment(s). Please note that cats are not tested for FIV/FeLV nor can FIP be predicted. We will share any medical information gathered during our health checks and observations revealed during their time in care. But it is important to know that some illnesses can have an incubation period of 10 days, which means that a cat can leave in good health but get sick a few days post adoption. In addition, the stress of a new environment can affect a cats’ immune system.
